SCRgroup set out on a mission to reach B Corp’s high standards in 2023 to demonstrate its contribution to making a positive difference in the world.
By undertaking the rigorous assessment required to obtain B Corp certification, SCRgroup was transparent about all areas of its operations, and business model, including governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment.
SCRgroup achieved an impressive, validated score of 105, which by far exceeds the minimum 80 points required for any company to receive B Corp certification.
In doing so, SCRgroup has joined a global community of around 7,500 B Corporations.
Managing Director and founder of SCRgroup Mr Chris Todorovski said he was incredibly proud of his company that has grown over 20 years to be recognised for the positive impact it has on people, communities, and the planet.
“Our mission always is to ensure that textiles, in particular clothing, can avoid ending up in landfills in Australia and beyond,” he said.
“We operate in a way that minimises environmental impacts caused by unwanted clothing and textiles by providing easy and convenient ways for Australians to participate fully in the circular economy. We also support charitable organisations with their own outcomes to provide clothing to people in need.”
Mr Todorovski said SCRgroup would continue to uphold the highest standards within the textile recycling industry.
“Our work doesn’t stop with this initial B Corp certification. We will continue to enhance and grow our positive impacts across our global network by always striving to push our own high environmental and ethical standards further while encouraging our partners and customers to do the same.”
B Corp is the second certification achieved by SCRgroup already in 2024, with the company announcing recently it has also been ISO certified in two standards – 9001 (Quality Management) and 14001 (Environmental Management Systems).
About B Corporation
B Corporation (B Corp) is a professional certification offered by B Lab, an international not for profit, to companies that meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.
To be B Corp certified, companies must complete the comprehensive B Impact Assessment (BIA) tool which is designed to measure, manage, and enhance positive impact performance across five key impact areas: workers, community, environment, governance, and customers.
When a company submits the assessment and achieves a score of 80 or more on the BIA, it becomes eligible to move forward with the B Corp Certification. Certified B Corps must recertify every three years.
B Corp Certification is a way for companies to demonstrate their dedication to sustainability, social responsibility, and ethical business practices. There are currently over 7,500 B Corps in 92 countries across 161 industries employing 670,000 people worldwide.
