Recycle With Mondo is a fun, simple and educational fundraising program presented by SCRgroup. This program supports Australian pre-schools, schools and clubs to raise thousands of dollars each year while diverting reusable items from landfill and providing global communities with affordable clothing and employment.

Since 2015, the program has reached over 35,000 students, saved almost 100,000 kilograms from landfill and raised over $23,000 for participating schools. It’s easy to organise, promotes sustainable behaviour for our future generations and raises much needed awareness on our throw-away fast-fashion lifestyle. Students are provided with collection and sustainability reports that demonstrates the positive impact they have on the environment when they reuse and recycle. It also equips students with important skills to make better decisions with their unwanted clothing and household items.

Schools can choose between Mondo Clothing Drives or Mondo Recycling Hubs.

In 2018, SCRgroup is running a competition for the schools the collect the highest average kilograms per student. The top 5 schools that achieve this will each receive an additional $1,000 to go towards their fundraising.

How it works

  1. Book your collection dates for each term, or have Recycling Hubs placed at your school. You can book online or you can call our office on (03) 9386 8702.
  2. Receive your FREE Recycle with Mondo Education Kit including promotional flyers and posters.
  3. Distribute your promotional flyers to your school community.
  4. Our SCRgroup educator will visit your school for an educational presentation.
  5. You will receive $0.10 cents per kilogram for the items collected. Hubs are serviced as needed.
  6. At the end of every term, you’ll be emailed a Mondo Ladder, which shows how your school is tracking alongside other schools in the state. At the end of the year, we will provide your school with sustainability report for waste, water, energy and greenhouse gas savings.
  7. When your school reaches 5,000 kg, your school is eligible for a FREE Mondo visit. Your school must reach this within the school year.

Refer-A-School Incentive

We have introduced a Refer-A-School Incentive, which means when you refer a school to our program and they sign up online for either a Hub or collection days, your school receives 100 kg credit towards your overall collection total. Every school is ranked on our school ladder based on their average kilograms collected per student and at the end of the year, our top 5 performing will each receive $1,000 in prize money in addition to what they have already raised. Be sure the school you refer includes your name in their registration form at the time of registration.

What can be collected?

All clean, wearable clothing, shoes, hats, handbags, belts, accessories, toys, towels, sheets, pillowcases and doona covers.

What can’t be collected?

Wet, dirty, torn items, doonas, pillows, books, DVDs, CDs and household items.

What happens to the clothes?

Clothing is collected and sorted for reuse and recycling. They are distributed in Australia and globally to maximise their reuse and recycling potential, providing employment, affordable clothing and improving livelihoods in developing countries.

Why reuse and recycle?

  • Divert from landfill.
  • Natural fibres like wool and cotton will decompose and create methane, a greenhouse gas which causes climate change.
  • Saves resources such as cotton and wool as well as oil which is used to make synthetic clothing such as nylon and polyester.
