Local Gentleman Looks After Flemington Community

Long-time Flemington resident, Leo, who many locals may see walking his lovely dog Heidi every morning, is taking illegal dumping cleanup into his own hands – cleaning up his local area on a regular basis.

Leo volunteers his time to look after the area surrounding the SCRgroup clothing collection hub, which is conveniently located at Newmarket Railway Station. The hub offers locals a very easy way to dispose of unwanted clothes and small household goods like toys and books. These items are then collected, sorted and re-used – whether that’s recycling of materials, or donation of items to charities and other causes.

Leo began tidying the area after he noticed rubbish had been left nearby, causing obstructions and possibly deterring people from dropping off their donations. Wanting to keep his local area looking tidy, Leo took it upon himself to volunteer his time in keeping the hubs clean and easily accessible for the community.

Karl Barabas, SCRgroup Customer Service Manager, was checking on the hubs a few weeks ago as Leo arrived for his daily clean-up. Karl was delighted to hear about Leo’s efforts and the pair now regularly meet up to look after the area together.

“It’s been fantastic to meet Leo and we’re very grateful for his time in looking after our SCRgroup drop-off hubs at Newmarket Railway Station. His efforts have prompted us to introduce our ‘Love A Hub’ scheme. We’re in the very early stages but we would love to hear about anyone else at the heart of their community helping to look after our hubs!”
